Passion in Job

Passions are activities we enjoy doing during our spare time. It may be hard to understand how our hobbies relate to our job. However, most people want to know what inspires and motivates us in our work.

The best way to highlight our leisure activities is to be our authentic self. If we are truly excited about something, our enthusiasm will shine through. After all, we cannot fake passion. Basically, these are the benchmarks to help us convey what moves us while sounding sincere:

  • Focus on one or two hobbies or activities that bring us joy.
  • Practice telling our personal story in a mirror until it feels natural.
  • Do not pretend to be someone we are not.
Most people are not looking for the "perfect" answer to this personal question. They are more interested in learning more about us, and sharing our hobbies is a terrific way to show what drives us.

So, when is our passion is our career? The primary goal of an interview is for employers and candidates to get to know each other. A dollop of personal insight, beyond what is written on our resume, could set us apart from other applicants. The best organisations are looking for employees who have a zest for life, not a boring desk jockey.

If our career is our passion, take advantage of these best ways to explain this to a potential employer:

  • Explain self-taught skills and how they apply.
  • Show how our passions drive us to succeed.
  • Explain why we love our job.

Further, to answer the question, "what are you passionate about?", we should talk about the following:

  • Talk about a passion we are actively involved in.
  • Make sure we are knowledgeable about the passion.
  • Give concrete examples.
  • Make a connection to the job or company.
  • Explain why our are passionate.
According to Stricker, a certified professional coach and experienced consultant, we should figure out what we like to do day-to-day, then look at our passions and see what the functional role within that areas might work best for us. We may also feel fulfilled when we end the day and have done our best, want to be the best at what we do, or have a long-term career goal that we desperately want to achieve.
